Sit back and relax while your suppressor ships to your door.
When choosing a silencer for your gun, first make sure it matches the caliber and threading of your firearm. Some suppressors are compatible with multiple calibers, but always confirm compatibility. Pay attention to the material—titanium is lightweight and durable, while steel is heavier but strong.
The sound reduction is a huge benefit, however, no suppressor makes a gun completely silent. Most silencers reduce the sound by 20-40 decibels. Remember that larger suppressors reduce noise more effectively but add extra weight and length to the gun.
There are two main attachment methods: direct-thread and quick-attach (QD) systems. QD systems make it easier to put on and take off the silencer but can be pricier. Direct-thread is more common and you want to make sure your gun is threaded to accept a suppressor.
Finally, consider what you'll use the silencer for—whether hunting, range shooting, or home defense—and read reviews from trusted brands like Silencer Central before making your decision.

β―To obtain a silencer in the U.S., you'll first need to go through the ATF's paperwork process, as silencers are regulated under the National Firearms Act (NFA). A **$200 tax stamp** purchase is required with your silencer order, a fee that has been in place since 1934.β―
After purchasing through Guns.com, you will first be directed to create a profile on Silencer Central’s platform. This profile helps streamline the process by capturing your personal details and simplifying document handling and is necessary before proceeding with the remaining paperwork.
Once you’ve created your profile, you must complete the fingerprint cards and mail them to Silencer Central. You can skip fingerprints if Silencer Central already has your fingerprints on file.
Once fingerprint cards are mailed to Silencer Central and processed, you must schedule a call with a Silencer Central customer support expert to help you complete your **ATF Form 4** (Application for Tax Paid Transfer and Registration of Firearm). Form 4 ultimately allows the transfer of the silencer to you and is filed electronically (eForm), with approval times typically within one to three business days. The form requires your personal information, the silencer's serial number, and a passport-sized photo if applying as an individual.
Upon approval of your Form 4, you'll be sent Form 4473 to complete and sign. Form 4473 (Firearms Transaction Record). This is completely normal and required by the ATF. When you pick up your suppressor, you won't need to go through the standard background check, as this process is handled differently for NFA items. The dealer will take care of the necessary paperwork with you.
Finally, a copy of your ATF Form 4 will be sent to your local Chief Law Enforcement Officer (CLEO). The CLEO doesn’t need to approve or sign it—this is simply a notification required by law. A mandatory 7-day waiting period begins once your CLEO acknowledges receipt of your ATF Form 4.
The ATF will send you a copy of your approved Form 4 and tax stamp as proof of legal ownership. Keep a copy of your tax stamp and Form 4 easily accessible when using your suppressor, as law enforcement may ask to see it. Please remember, only the registered owner or members of a trust can legally possess and use the silencer.
Guns.com offers the convenience of doorstep delivery thanks to our partnership with Silencer Central. Once the ATF approves your application, Silencer Central will ship your suppressor to your home, bypassing the need to visit a dealer in person.
